Starting from the historic center, the walk gradually leads into the Sassi districts, where houses, streets, and places of worship are shaped directly from the rock. As you move between Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, your local guide shares stories of everyday life, traditions, and spirituality that have defined this unique landscape for centuries.
The tour includes visits to two remarkable rock churches. In Sasso Barisano, you will explore the ancient Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, while in Sasso Caveoso you will reach the spectacular Madonna de Idris, dramatically set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the canyon. This sacred complex also preserves the ancient crypt of San Giovanni in Monterrone and frescoes dating from the 12th to the 17th century.
